Recycling

Wet/Dry Program:
· This residential recycling and composting program was launched in November 2001 throughout Kent County.
· The next phase of the program is to include the Industrial, Commercial and Institutional (ICI) sectors.
· Dry waste, which includes recyclables and non-recyclables, is placed in blue transparent bags and sent to the WASWC Dry plant. Here, recyclables are recovered, baled, and sold on the market.
· Approximately 42% of the Dry waste is recovered
· Residents of Kent may also participate in the following WASWC recycling initiatives:
- Sneaker Recycling, 2001
- Cell Phone Recycling, 2002
- Milk Carton Recycling, 2003
- Wet waste, which includes organics and wet contaminated waste, is placed in a green transparent bag and sent to the WASWC Wet plant. Through a series of screens, organics are recovered to produce compost.

Tire Program:

-The Kent County population can bring their old tires free of charge to the transfer station (no rims).

Battery Depots Program:

-Battery deposit sites have been installed in several locations all over Kent County for recycling used batteries. Residents of the Kent County area can get rid of their used batteries free of charge.

Household Hazardous Waste (HHW):

-In May and October, the Westomorland-Albert Solid Waste Corporation’s household hazardous waste collection mobile unit visits Kent County communities. This allows residents to get rid of their hazardous waste properly. This service is offered free of charge and reduces the quantity of dangerous products in the environment.
