Did you know that since 1950, we've consumed as much as all the generations before us combined.

You and your family can make a difference. Below are some things you can do to get started. You will soon find your own ways to make a difference and reduce the amount of garbage your household creates.

We want to hear your ideas.

Things You and Your Parents Can Do to Help You Save the Planet

Buy stuff made with recycled materials and packed in recyclable materials.

Buy stuff in returnable and recyclable containers.

Buy stuff that is made to be reused, such as rechargeable batteries.

Buy in bulk and store it in reusable containers if it's food, such as breakfast cereal.

Use cloth serviettes, tea towels and sponges instead of paper towels.

Use reusable coffee filters made from cloth or metal.

Use old clothes for cleaning and polishing rags.

Reuse wrapping paper, ribbons, candles and gift boxes.

Compost leaves and lawn clippings.

Shop second hand stores, yard sales, flea markets and the newspaper for great reuse bargains.

Found even more ways to help? Just email us your ideas and we'll add them to our growing list of ways all of us can make a difference.
